Pediatrics
Pediatric rotations include one month each of inpatient, emergency, ambulatory pediatrics and neonatology. During the inpatient pediatrics rotation at Children’s Hospital of Wisconsin, family medicine residents, together with pediatric residents, are responsible for admissions, management, daily rounds, and conferences. Residents have approximately 10-12 patients at a time.
The Pediatric Emergency
Department rotation also takes place at
Children’s Hospital of Wisconsin.
The family medicine residents typically
see 20-30 patients in a shift, under the
supervision of pediatric attendings and
fellows.
The outpatient/ambulatory
pediatrics rotation takes place in the second
or third year of residency, in local pediatricians’
offices. This is complemented by a longitudinal
experience at our own Family Medicine Center.
The neonatology rotation
takes place at the Center for Women and
Children at the Spring Street Campus, which
has a Level II Neonatal Intensive Care Unit.
Under the supervision of staff neonatologists,
the resident is responsible for learning
the management of premature babies with
significant difficulties, neonatal resuscitation,
stabilization for transfer, and will also
learn routine nursery care in the step-down
and routine nursery.
