  • Center for Patient Care and Outcomes Research (PCOR)
The Medical College of Wisconsin Center for Patient Care and Outcomes Research (PCOR), a division of the Health Policy Institute, was established in January 2001. The Center is open to a variety of research interests, methods, and perspectives. Two areas of specific interest, Cancer Prevention and Control and Women's Health, have been identified and have already attracted investigators. PCOR faculty have also successfully competed for extramural funding to support research in these and other areas. The Women's Health area includes several programs that are not cancer-related, such as physician practices related to osteoporosis and treatment decision-making regarding hormone replacement therapy.

  • Institution Review Boards (IRB)
Medical College of Wisconsin (MCW) is authorized to perform research involving human subjects under a Multiple Project Assurance (MPA) Contract negotiated with the Office of Human Research Protection (OHRP) of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services. This MPA contains the institutional policies and procedures for the conduct of research involving human subjects. The MCW Institution Review Boards (IRB) of the Office of Research, Technology, and Informatics are committed to ensuring that all research activities involving human subjects comply with the requirements of the MPA.

All research conducted by MCW faculty, residents, and students must be reviewed and approved by the principal investigator's affiliated institution prior to data collection for the project. Children's Hospital of Wisconsin IRB is responsible for review of projects involving children (minors) regardless of the investigator's primary affiliated institution.
