Family Practice Chief Residents' Leadership Course
Based upon a long-standing tradition of chief
resident leadership development, an updated, one-day Leadership
Course for Family Practice Chief Resident is held each year that
focuses on essential skills that chief residents require to be successful.
Chiefs who attend this
course acquire new skills to enhance their effectiveness as residency
program leaders. Chiefs learn and apply practical skills and tested
leadership models while building their network of colleagues.

the breadth of areas covered throughout the day:
- Leadership qualities, types and styles
- Delegating work and motivating others
- Peer coaching and team development
- Working with your program director -
keys to success
- Recognizing and dealing with peers in
difficulty
- Mastering and managing self and time
Course faculty members
are residency program directors and family medicine faculty. The
list of 2001-2002 faculty presenters includes Rick Lewans, MD, Jim
Slawson, MD, Melly Goodell, MD, Len Scarpinato, DO, Bill Geiger,
MD, Randy Ward, MD, Dennis Bulter, PhD, Bob Lyon, MD, and Mike Mazzone,
MD. Invited guest faculty have included Larry Pheifer, MD, Executive
Director of the Wisconsin Academy of Family Practice, and UW residency
faculty.
